Private lessons with Charlotte Adams
I teach weekly private guitar lessons for local
students (Texas Hill Country), and offer longer lessons on a monthly or
bi-monthly basis for students who drive more than an hour to their
lesson. I also offer week-long guitar intensives for
students who travel from a different state or country for instruction. Guitar intensives must be
booked a minimum of three months in advance. Please email
me with questions or to schedule private lessons.
Workshops and Retreats
I offer various types of workshops for any level
player throughout the year. Workshops vary in length and cost, and focus
on such areas as rhythm, lead playing, improvisation, ear training and
more. They are all really fun and participants take a big leap in
their playing and in their understanding of the guitar. Read about the
workshops and weekend retreats here
and stay in touch with the calendar
page for scheduled events.
Guitar Lessons and Consultation by Telephone or email
You would be amazed at how productive a guitar lesson or
consultation by telephone can be! In addition to assisting you with songs you're
working on, I can help you with everything from tuning your
guitar to dealing with performance anxiety. It's also a great way to get
help with theory or note reading. With a guitar lesson by
telephone you can answer a question or solve a problem with one quick
call, or use a series of calls to propel you through a phase of your musical
career. Here are some topics you might want to discuss:
Guitar performance and theory: note values, counting, chord spelling, voicing, scales over chords, fingering,
picking patterns, strumming, dynamics, tempo, etc.
Problem-solving in specific songs: I can
listen to you play a song over the telephone and suggest a strumming or picking pattern, insert an
intro, ending or instrumental break, help you sing over your guitar playing,
check your timing, critique your lead, or address any questions you may
have.
Learning songs or licks from recordings:
I can instruct you in playing any song that I can hear. I am usually
able to hear a recording well enough over the telephone to do this, but if
the song is long or involved, it might be preferable to email it to me. I
can then transcribe it and either give you verbal instruction or send
you a written transcription of it. (Go to Creative
Music Services to learn how to take advantage of this
service.)
Composing: Get help with arranging, form, instrumentation, bass lines,
hooks. (Again, look at Creative
Music Services.)
Guitar lessons for your child: Advice on choosing a guitar, choosing a
guitar teacher,
supporting practice, recitals and competitions
Healthy body use: Individualized advice on pain avoidance and
correction, proper body use, fitness and vitality
The Mind: Imaging, memorization, anxiety, practice methods, discipline
Guidelines -
for the Telephone:
Preparing in the following ways will help you get the most from your telephone time:
Have any music that you are working on in front of you when you call. If possible,
email or fax
a copy before calling. (Please indicate that you will be sending a fax on your appointment request) Make sure the music
you send is clearly marked
with your name and the time of your guitar lesson.
Have your guitar close to your telephone, in case you need to play it for your
guitar lesson. It usually works to simply place the receiver on a music stand and sit in front of it to
play. A good headset phone will pick up the voice and guitar simultaneously.
Have a pencil and some blank paper as well as staff paper (if
applicable) available.
Guitar lessons by phone are easier than you might imagine, and lots of fun. You will find it a convenient, efficient and immediate way to advance your musical knowledge and skills.
For Email:
Use the first "buy now" button below
($15.00) to pay. If you feel that your question has a very short
answer, feel free to ask a second or third question in the same email.
If, however, the answer to your question requires more than 30
minutes, I will notify you and you will have the option of stepping up
to the next time level. Then, simply send your question(s) to
me and I will reply as soon as possible (usually within 24 hours).
To schedule a guitar lesson by telephone,
email me to request a time slot. I will reply with times that are
possible for me. Keep in mind that
I am in Texas (Central Standard Time). Include the telephone number you would like for me to call
at the arranged time. Your time will be confirmed by e-mail.
If you're
unsure how to estimate the time needed, start small. You might be surprised at how quickly
your goals are met.
It is often possible to have a guitar lesson, spend some time working through
what you learned, and call back the same day for a check up or
clarification.
Requesting a time for a guitar lesson several days
in advance will increase the likelihood of getting the lesson time of
your choice,
but it is not impossible to get a spot on the same day that you
make your request, particularly if you are only needing a short lesson.
