Guitar Workshops and Guitar Workshop/Retreats offer a great way to take a rapid leap in your guitar playing. I conduct workshops of varying lengths for guitar players of all ages and all levels of experience.  In addition to the 1/2 day and one-day workshops for men, women and  teens, I offer Texas Hill Country Guitar Workshop/Retreats twice yearly for women.

Check the bottom of this page and stay in touch with the news page and the calendar for upcoming guitar workshops. Feel free to request a time or organize one in your area. I love doing guitar workshops and can even be convinced to leave my beautiful country home for a guitar workshop or workshop/retreat  in your town!

If you think you might be interested in attending a future retreat, it's a good idea to email me so that you can get on the list for early notice. The fall 2011 retreat filled up before I posted it on the site, although It's not too late to get on the waiting list. The next women's guitar workshop/retreat will be in the spring.

Guitar Workshops range in length from two to six hours are usually limited to ten participants. Topics vary, but here are some of the things you can expect from a workshop:

  • Acquire information and learn techniques for accompaniment and rhythm playing
  • Learn the secret to soloing over changing harmonies
  • Receive personal assistance in proper body use, left hand and right hand technique
  • Demystify terms, symbols and concepts of music theory as relate to guitar playing
  • Increase your confidence, make new friends and have fun!

Beginning Guitar Workshops  * (Check the calendar page for dates)

Here are some of the things you will learn in the beginning workshop:

  • read a chord chart and play basic chords

  • hold the guitar properly; hold and use a pick correctly

  • use standard right hand fingering for fingerstyle guitar

  • play two songs, using different strumming and fingerpicking patterns.

Guitar Workshop/Retreats for Women provide female guitarists a safe and nurturing emotional environment and an inspiring and serene physical environment in which to expand their playing skills and knowledge of the instrument. Workshop/retreats for women are typically three or four days long and offer the benefits of guitar workshops (described above), plus:

  • Study and practice proper body use in order to allow clear energy channels for expression, to reduce risk of injury and to eliminate tension and pain in the body while playing guitar.
  • Learn to quiet the mind as a means to artistic expression and efficient, stress-free learning
  • Go more deeply into the fundamentals of music and create a program for continued growth
  • Learn songs and participate in nightly jam sessions
  • Expand your listening skills (ear training)
  • Experience the balance between solitude and community, silence and sound, which is integral to the vitality of the artist and the emotional and spiritual health of the individual.
